Social Media & Content Lab Intern
Hago
Internship | Remote | Unpaid | ~3–5 hours/week
Program dates: November, 2026 – May, 2027
Learn social media by actually doing social media.
We’re looking for a small group of students to join the Hago Social Media Lab, a hands-on internship built for people who want real experience creating content—not an internship where you spend a semester watching someone else do it.
You’ll work in a small creative pod, rotate across TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook, create something nearly every week, look at what happens after it goes live, and use what you learn to make the next thing better.
Some ideas will work.
Some probably won’t.
That’s kind of the point.
Hago is an early-stage marketplace built around helping people get everyday life handled through trusted local Helpers. Because our social presence is still young, you’ll get the chance to help us experiment with what the Hago voice and community can become rather than simply following a playbook someone else already wrote.
What You’ll Actually Do
During the program, you’ll:
- Rotate through TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook
- Create original social content each week
- Develop short-form video, graphics, memes, carousels, copy, and other platform-native ideas
- Learn how hooks, storytelling, trends, timing, and format affect performance
- Work in a three-person creative pod
- Review and improve each other’s work before anything goes live
- Participate in a weekly Content Committee where the group decides what should be published, revised, tested, or scrapped
- Look at analytics and audience response to understand what worked—and what didn’t
- Experiment with content aimed at different audiences, including students, potential Helpers, and broader Hago audiences
- Explore how national brand content can be adapted to feel relevant to the community around you
- Participate in occasional Wildcard Challenges designed to push you outside your normal creative approach
- Build portfolio-ready work from what you create
You won’t be expected to already know how to do all of this.
You’re here to learn.
How the Program Works
You’ll be placed in a small pod and begin on one of three platforms:
TikTok. Instagram. Facebook.
Each rotation lasts roughly six weeks before your group moves to a new platform.
By the end of the internship, you’ll have worked across all three.
Every rotation moves from understanding the platform to experimenting with content, reviewing results, improving your approach, and eventually handing what you’ve learned to the next group.
Most weeks, you should expect to develop at least one piece of content of your own while also helping improve the work created by your teammates.
But not everything you make has to be published.
Sometimes the best outcome of an experiment is learning why it didn’t work.
And Sometimes We’ll Throw You a Wildcard
Not every assignment will be predictable.
You might be challenged to:
- Create something specifically designed to attract future Hago Helpers
- Make content your parents would like more than your friends
- Explain Hago without actually explaining Hago
- Revive an earlier post that completely flopped
- Make something useful in 15 seconds
- Build a piece around your own campus experience
- Take one idea and rethink it for an entirely different audience
- Create something Hago probably never would have thought of without you
The point isn’t just to make more content.
It’s to learn how to think creatively about an audience.
About the Numbers
We’re a growing brand with a new social presence.
We’re not going to promise you hundreds or thousands of views.
A post might get 20 views.
Another might get 2,000.
Something you think is brilliant might go nowhere. Something you made in 20 minutes might suddenly outperform everything else.
We’ll look at why.
You’ll learn to work with things like reach, views, engagement, watch time, retention, shares, saves, comments, and audience response—but your success in the program isn’t determined by going viral.
We’re much more interested in whether you’re learning how to create, test, analyze, and improve.
What You’ll Leave With
Our goal is for you to finish the program with more than another line on your résumé.
You should leave with:
- Hands-on experience across three major social platforms
- Real examples of content you helped create
- Experience working within a brand
- Practice using analytics to make creative decisions
- Experience giving and receiving creative feedback
- Exposure to how an early-stage startup builds its audience
- Portfolio-ready case studies from your work
- A better understanding of what kind of social-media work you actually enjoy
We’ll dedicate the final part of the program specifically to helping you turn your work into portfolio pieces you can use for future internships, interviews, or jobs.
Who We’re Looking For
You do not need previous professional social-media experience.
We’re more interested in students who:
- Spend enough time online to have opinions about what works and what doesn’t
- Are interested in social media, marketing, communications, content, design, branding, entrepreneurship, or creative work
- Like coming up with ideas
- Are willing to experiment
- Can give constructive feedback without being a jerk
- Can receive constructive feedback without taking it personally
- Are comfortable collaborating with other students
- Pay attention to internet and cultural trends
- Are curious about why certain content catches on
- Can reliably contribute a few hours each week
- Want work they can actually add to a portfolio
You don’t need to be an influencer.
You don’t need thousands of followers.
You don’t need to be comfortable on camera.
You don’t need to have figured out what you want to do after college.
If you’re creative, curious, reliable, and interested in learning how social media actually works, we’d like to hear from you.
Time Commitment
Approximately 3–5 hours per week during active program weeks.
We know you’re a student. The program is intentionally designed to work around classes, exams, school breaks, and the occasional week when everything somehow becomes due at once.
The program runs from November 5, 2026 through April 30, 2027, with a winter break built in.
Compensation
This is an unpaid educational internship focused on hands-on learning, mentorship, experimentation, and portfolio development.
If your school offers academic or experiential-learning credit, Hago is happy to complete reasonable documentation required for you to pursue it.
Participation does not guarantee future employment with Hago.
One More Thing
We don’t want nine students making nine slightly different versions of whatever we tell them to make.
We want your ideas.
You’re probably closer to many of the audiences we’re trying to reach than we are. If you think something we’re doing is boring, say so. If you think there’s a better way to tell the story, show us. If you have an idea that sounds a little weird but might work, we probably want to hear it.
The goal is to make things, help each other make them better, see what happens, and keep learning.
If that sounds more interesting than spending a semester making someone else’s Canva graphics, we’d love to hear from you.
Life. Handled.
