Information Technologies (IT) Internship Job Posting
Louisville Metro Housing Authority (LMHA) is seeking a paid Information Technologies Intern. LMHA is a Public Housing Agency, which presently manages approximately 2,800 units of conventional and scattered site housing in Louisville, Kentucky and serves more than 11,000 households through its Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program. LMHA is a HUD designated Moving to Work (MTW) agency that employs more than 330 administrative, supervisory and maintenance staff. This is a temporary position with a salary range of $14.91 to $17.44 based on education, previous training and experience.
General Description
The IT Intern will perform duties for the Louisville Metro Housing Authority (LMHA) IT Department. The position will report directly to the IT Department Director. The IT Intern will perform tasks as a member of the IT Department staff handling assigned problems within LMHA network servers, personal computers, and other information systems within the organization. The IT Intern will provide technical assistance to employees and other IT Department customers. The IT Intern will work closely with the IT Department team and will be given ample opportunity to develop and exercise their technical and business skills in the field of Information Technologies, Data Management, Information Systems and Computer Science. They will be mentored, directed, and supervised by the IT Department Director. This paid internship is intended to give each participant hands-on, real-world IT experience in a business environment.
This position will involve working during normal business hours (Monday through Friday). The intern will work an average of 20 hours or more per week, as agreed upon between the IT Intern and the IT Department Director with actual hours varying depending upon tasks assigned. This position is considered temporary.
Responsibilities
Various networking, computer and system application tasks will be assigned:
- Setup, configuration, and installation of new workstations
- Network installation, configuration, and troubleshooting
- Computer workstations and Server patch management and updates.
- Basic helpdesk support for applications and printers
- Troubleshooting of computer hardware issues
- Research into solutions for current problems or new projects (e.g. cybersecurity initiatives, existing applications development)
- Maybe assigned Ownership of specific systems of interest
Qualifications
- Interns should be currently pursuing a major in IT, Computer Science, or very closely related field.
- IT Interns should have previous hands-on experience or coursework in computer hardware, software, networks, and communications.
- IT Interns are expected to have a basic PC knowledge, including configuration of operating systems, hardware identification, basic networking principles, and troubleshooting.
- IT Interns are expected to be skilled in using standard desktop applications (e.g., Microsoft 365 applications)
- IT Interns should possess some basic knowledge of database applications and reporting.
- IT Interns should have good communication skills (verbal and written) are essential.
- IT Interns shall have the ability to work both independently with little supervision and as part of a team, depending upon the assigned task.
