This is a paid internship that is part of Heaven Hill’s Summer Internship Program (running May-August). The role is based at our Louisville Office.      

As part of the Heaven Hill Summer Internship Program, you will support organizational strategic goals through hands-on project work and high-impact assignments. Our program is designed to provide meaningful experience, professional development, cross-functional exposure, networking opportunities, facility tours, and intern engagement events throughout the summer.      

What the Role Is

The Environmental & Sustainability Intern will support Heaven Hill’s Environmental & Sustainability team in shaping positive environmental impact across the company’s four sustainability priorities:

  • Using water more efficiently
  • Driving toward zero carbon emissions
  • Reducing waste
  • Conserving ecosystems that support our business

In this role, you will gain hands-on experience with environmental data management, compliance-support activities, and corporate sustainability initiatives. You will contribute to projects that expand our understanding of our environmental footprint, advance reporting readiness, and strengthen environmental performance across our operations.

How You Will Spend Your Time?

  • EU Deforestation Regulation
    • Support the Environmental & Sustainability team in preparing for compliance with the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR), including:
    • Assistingin gathering required supplier information such as product descriptions, quantities, countries of origin, and available geolocation data,
    • Organizing documents and inputs needed for future Due Diligence Statements, and
    • Helping structure or input data into the developing central EUDR database to support long-term recordkeeping requirements.

Zero Waste to Landfill Support

  • Assistin reviewing current waste streams at Kentucky visitors centers to helpidentifymaterials that could be reduced, reused, or diverted from landfill.
  • Participate in onsite observations and walk-throughs to document opportunities related to signage, sorting stations, visitor behavior, or material flows.
  • Support the collection and organization of waste-related data to inform zero-waste opportunities.
  • Assistin preparing recommendations that support the E&S team’s ongoing waste diversion and improvement initiatives.

Administrative & Cross-Functional Support

  • Provide day-to-day administrative support for the E&S team, including ensuringdocumentationaccuracy and accessibility.

Professional Development

  • Prepare and present findings and recommendations to internal teams throughout the internship.
  • Deliver a final presentation to the Executive Leadership Team summarizing your project work and key learnings.
  • Participate in developmental workshops, networking opportunities, and cross-functional exposure events.

Who You Are…

Required Skills and Experience:

  • A current junior or senior pursuing a degree in environmental science or policy, sustainability, environmental engineering, or a related field
  • Interested in environmental issues and sustainability trends
  • Quick learner who can apply new concepts to real-world tasks
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and thorough
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Strong communicator with the ability to work collaboratively

Physical Requirements

While performing duties of job, employee is occasionally required to:

  • Stand; extensive walking; use hands and fingers to handle, or feel objects, and use of computer; reach with hands and arms.
  • Will be required to climb stairs and may be required to climb ladders.
  • Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
