Position Overview
The Midlands Workforce Development Board and SC Works are seeking a motivated and creative intern to support our mission of connecting job seekers with employers while strengthening our community presence. This internship offers hands-on experience in workforce development, business outreach, participant engagement, and digital marketing within a dynamic public-private partnership environment.
Key Responsibilities
Business Services Support
- Assist in developing and maintaining relationships with local employers and business partners
- Support outreach efforts to engage new businesses in workforce development programs
- Help coordinate employer engagement events, job fairs, and networking opportunities
- Conduct research on local labor market trends and employer needs
- Assist with preparation of business service materials and presentations
- Support data collection and analysis for employer satisfaction surveys
Participant Engagement
- Help design and implement strategies to increase participant involvement in workforce programs
- Assist with organizing and facilitating workshops, information sessions, and career development events
- Support case management activities and follow-up with program participants
- Help develop participant feedback mechanisms and engagement surveys
- Assist in creating welcoming and inclusive environments at SC Works centers
- Support efforts to connect participants with community resources and support services
Social Media & Digital Marketing
- Create engaging content for social media platforms (Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, Twitter)
- Develop graphics, videos, and written content highlighting success stories and program offerings
- Monitor social media engagement and analytics to optimize content strategy
- Assist with website content updates and blog post creation
- Help manage online community engagement and respond to inquiries
- Support email marketing campaigns and newsletter development
- Create promotional materials for workforce development programs and events
Administrative Support
- Assist with event planning and coordination
- Help maintain databases and participant tracking systems
- Support grant reporting and documentation requirements
- Assist with general office tasks and special projects as assigned
Qualifications
Required
- Currently enrolled in or recent graduate of a degree program in Communications, Marketing, Business Administration, Human Resources, Social Work, or related field
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency with social media platforms and basic graphic design tools
- Microsoft Office Suite experience (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Professional demeanor and customer service orientation
Preferred
- Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, Visme, or similar design software
- Knowledge of workforce development, human resources, or social services
- Previous internship or volunteer experience in community outreach
- Familiarity with labor market dynamics and employment trends
- Experience with database management or CRM systems
- Bilingual capabilities (English/Spanish)
